WHAT BRINGS US TO DO RADIX WORK?Let's start with a story...Imagine a very young boy who is crying, and a parent says "Quit crying. You're such a baby!" The boy blinks back his tears, swallows, and scrunches his shoulders forward to stop. If this continues to happen, these protective, controlled movements develop unconsciously until the child no longer has to work hard at not crying. And he's learned that boys are supposed to be tough and fearless. The same thing happens when girls get the message that nice girls don't get mad. They work hard at first to keep a tight lid on their anger; then it becomes habitual. And they learn that girls are supposed to be sweet and agreeable. This "blocking" - muscular tension and emotional holding - continues as we become adults. We don't feel many emotions, and we may experience our lives as stuck or empty. At times, blocked feelings such as anger or pain have a way of seeping out. They may be low-level or quite intense. And although we are adults, we don't know what to do with these feelings. Sometimes, instead of developing muscular tension and blocking feelings, babies and very young children may feel everything and be constantly overwhelmed and scared by it. They are too young to have developed the internal "resources" to keep the chaotic world out. Often parents/care-givers don't provide enough external calm and safety. Consequently, as we become adults, other people's feelings and our own feelings get
mixed together and continue to be overwhelming and scary.
In all cases, not working through what is happening interferes with our emotional spontaneity and well-being, often leading to self-defeating behaviors. This affects our relationships, our careers, our health, our happiness. Radix work helps you loosen the blocks and fully explore your feelings in a safe environment. Radix helps you develop boundaries so you can separate yourself from other people's feelings and energy. Doing this work gives you clarity. As you let go of past defense mechanisms and survival skills that no longer work for you, you become free to live in the present in a healthy way.
